U.S. Awaiting the OK to Deliver Aid to Myanmar
Published Date: 05-08-2008 11:01 PM CT
Defense secretary Robert Gates says he can't imagine dropping relief aid into Myanmar without the military government's permission. Some U.S. Officials are floating that idea... to help victims of last week's devastating cyclone. Gates says the military is moving aircraft and ships into place to help deliver humanitarian supplies once they get permission. Myanmar's state media puts the death toll at nearly 23,000.Relief workers worry that a lack of safe food and drinking water could push the number of dead above 100,000.
