Local Law Enforcement Discuss Convention Experience

Of the hundreds of officers keeping order at the convention, eight represented North Mankato...Fox Mankato's Carly Aplin tells us about their experiences.((NATS stage set up))While the stage was being set for some of the most memorable speeches of the RNC...((NATS McCain or Palin speaking))Over four hundred police officers were keeping people safe...Chief Mike Pulis says, "Our job was to make everyone safe, not only the dignitaries we were assigned to protect, but everybody."((NATS RIOTS))Although the eight North Mankato officers weren't in the midst of the riots... their days were just as exciting...Chief Pulis says, "During our time up there the plots came out, the kidnapping of delegates, other delegates assaulted, there's all kinds of nasty things found on search warrants that would hurt people."For one North Mankato officer working with the Secret Service, Capital Police Department and state agencies is, so far, the highlight of his career.Dan Forester says, "This doesn't happen every day and this is probably the last chance we're going to get to be able to do something like that."For Chief Pulis, this was his last opportunity ... The North Mankato Chief says he plans to retire at the end of this month.Chief Pulis says, "I've got over 34 years full - time in law enforcement and even with that this was just something yea... something interesting."An interesting and meaningful experience he says he will never forget...Chief Mike Pulis says, "We were part of making history and that's the thing that's going to always stick in my mind, the thing I'll always remember."And after yesterday's 14 hour day they're ready to take a break...Dan Forester says, "They were some long days, but after today I have a couple days off and it will be catching up on some sleep and trying to relax a little bit."And while it may not be the RNC, it's always good to be home...Chief of Police Mike Pulis says, "There's always something going on and you know this is just a great city, we love it...
