13 international and several local companies are taking part in the Bioenergy Days conference at MSU this week.News 12's Erick Lind takes a look at what this means for the campus, and what it could mean for MSU students in the future.Minnesota State University Mankato is well decorated when it comes to their science and engineering technology. While the school doesn't currently offer a program for a degree in a bioenergy field, the school's credentials made it a great fit to host the conference.Former MSU College of Science and Engineering Technology Dean John Frey says, "It's very exciting because we don't normally have an opportunity to do an international convention in renewable energy which is really a very appropriate topic right now."Not only does the Bioenergy Days Conference show the world what the MSU campus has to offer, but may also give MSU students more opportunity down the road.MSU biology professor Dr. Gregg Marg says, "We are looking at having interactions between international companies, specifically Swedish companies, where they will bring technology to the campus, and our students will work with that technology to validate it for potential use in the United States."MSU is already working on renewable energy projects on the production side with biological science and biochemistry, as well as wind in the mechanical and civil engineering. On the consumption side the automotive engineering department has worked with ethanol and now furthering cars that run off batteries for local travel. That means this convention is a big opportunity for MSU's current students.Frey also says, "The fact that we have this conference here, it should be something the students should see as an extremely important part of their life."Important to their life, and to Mankato's future. In Mankato, Erick Lind, News 12.
