Authorities are asking Minnesotans, especially young children to be careful of thin ice on rivers, ponds, creeks and lakes. Hennepin county sheriff says more than half of all ice-related fatalities in the past 30 years have involved children under age 18. The Minnesota Department of Natural resources says right now no lakes in the state are thick enough to walk on. The ice needs to be consistently 4 inches thick before it is safe.
