Charger Helps Bring Attention To Seatbelt Use

For two and a half months the Minnesota State Patrol used a new Dodge Charger for patrol and to focus on seat belt use.The Charger Project started September first and ran through November fifteenth. The project was geared toward high visibility and education as well as enforcement, highlighting seatbelt use by young drivers.Capt. Lori Hodapp Betterton says, "It did get a lot of attention. And I have to admit I thought the car was cool, and I know that the young people thought the car was cool. So we got their attention, which then allowed us to be able to speak with them. So we found that to be very successful."During enforcement the Charger stopped 541 cars and wrote 105 seatbelt citations. The Charger also appeared at nine community events to spread the word about seatbelt use and safety.
