Luck was on the side of a nine year old boy when he walked away after being hit by a car in Vernon Center this morning.Lieutenant Scott McConkey says, "Fortunately he appears ok. It could've been tragic, but he's ok."The Minnesota State Patrol says the boy was crossing Main Street in Vernon Center when he was struck by a vehicle heading north on 169.The car swerved to avoid the child and ended up hitting the town Christmas Tree...The driver was uninjured and the boy walked away without a scratch.Lt. McConkey says, "He looks fine, he's got a smile on his face now, so there's a happy ending to this one."The State Patrol says with weather like this, drivers should slow down and pay close attention, especially when children are not in school.
