New Ulm is also getting a new police chief...Commander Myron Wieland takes the position at midnight on February 1st. He grew up in New Ulm and has worked for the police department for the past 21 years. Commander Wieland says it's an overwhelming feeling to serve the community grew up in. He also says it's the force that he really takes pride in. New Ulm's appointed Police Chief Myron Wieland says, "Our strong suit is the patrol and investigatory and administrative staff works well as a team concept. New Ulm is very fortunate to have the police department they do." Commander Wieland says his department will face some economic challenges in the future, but it will continue to serve the community proudly.
