First district Congressman Tim Walz is reforming the earmark process and hopes his fellow lawmakers will follow his lead...Congressional earmarks, or pet projects, are approved federal funds to be spent on specific projects.The new reform process now requires Members of Congress to post earmark requests and requested dollar amounts on their website.Now, Congressman Walz is adding another unprecedented step to the earmark process.Congressman Walz says, "We're going to set up on our website tracking these things, once the money's allocated, how it was spent, where it was spent and so forth; and my goal is then to push for this to be the next step."Tonight on the Fox Mankato News at Nine Congressman Walz will talk about earmark spending and why these requests don't add extra spending to the federal budget.
