The St. Louis county board will consider a development plan for a 1,400-acre parcel of land on Lake Vermilion that was once slated to become a state park.

The board will consider the plan on Tuesday for the land owned by U.S. Steel, which announced a few weeks ago that it was pulling out of talks with the state over the purchase price.

The plan calls for about 130 units of high-end housing and it covers about five miles of shoreline in northern Minnesota.

If the county board approves the project it would move forward for final approval by the board on April 28.

An approved development agreement between the county and U.S. Steel would not automatically mean the proposed state park is dead.
