Senator Amy Klobuchar's staff made a stop in Mankato today to talk about the reauthorization of the federal No Child Left Behind law. Klobuchar's staff spoke with area school officials about the positives and negatives of the No Child Left Behind law. The bill is up for reauthorization later this year. Minnesota lawmakers are looking for input from educators across the state. Superintendent Ed Waltman says he would like to see changes made to No Child Left Behind if Congress decides to adopt it. Supt. Ed Waltman says, "We think that the act needs to change from a standard based test to a gross based test, because right now it's one-size-fits all for our students and we have 7,100 unique individuals." Superintendent Waltman says if significant changes are not made by 2010, he would like Minnesota to consider withdrawing from participation in No Child Left Behind.
