An apparent attempt to get back at an ex girlfriend has turned into a situation that could change 19 year old Logan Weimart's life. It has many looking at the power of the internet. 19 year old Logan Weimert faces two felony counts of possession and distribution of pornography involving a minor. Janesville police say Weimert posted a nude picture of his 17 year old ex girlfiend on Facebook after the two broke up. Weimert tells police she sent the picture to him via text message.
Police say the family of the 17 year old female has contacted police over the past year accusing Weimert of sending threatening text messages her. The picture on Facebook was discovered as a result of that. David Ulmen says, "One of our officers stumbled upon it on Facebook."Officers then executed a search warrant at Weimerts home in Madison Lake last Friday. Police removed two cell phones, 2 laptops, storage devices and mp3 players. The case is raising many questions and concerns. Dave Ulmen says, "Young people really need to understand and realize that if they're doing something like this it could have consequences for years to come."
Jody Ritmiller is a media specialist at Monroe Elementary school. She works to teach students how to be safe and smart on the internet. Ritmiller says, "It it's something you don't want your parents to know, your siblings to know, your pastor to know, your principal to know, your grandparents to know. Then don't even say it online. It will certainly get to them."
In Weimert's case..it got to the Janesville police department and has him facing a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison and a fine of $15,000.
