The trails around Lake Crystal have become a little more aesthetically pleasing.People walking the Laker Trail may notice new trees lining the path, along with bricks and benches. That is thanks to a 15-thousand dollar grant from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation and local donors. The money also went toward a rain garden and the Lake Crystal sign on Highway 60.Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation coordinator Gina Cooper says, "The community came together to help beautify the trail and provide shade and a nice place to walk your dog and go rollerblading and that sort of thing."The city is looking to expand the trail in the future with a federal grant.Cooper says they will look to beautify that section as well when it is completed.
