It's not quite the United Nations, or the G20 Summit, but a couple of Southern Minnesota towns are forming an alliance.Winnebago and Amboy are banding together.News 12's Erick Lind says the 'Ambago Alliance' is looking to give new opportunities to not only its citizens, but other visitors to the area as well.Richard Detlaff has been doing business in Amboy for nearly 40 years. He's always looking for new customers. Thanks to the Ambago Alliance, he has already seen more potential shoppers in town. The Villager owner Richard Detlaff says, "There was a good crowd on the street. You've got joint advertising. 2 towns for the same money basically, and that I think is a very good plan."The Ambago Alliance is an idea by the cities of Amboy and Winnebago. The event that drew the people was the two towns holding community garage sales, and each town promoting the others' thanks to the Alliance. They feel that can expand possibilities for their business owners.Winnebago Chamber President Scott Robertson says, "Apart we're okay...together much stronger."Amboy Chamber Member Marty Aldinger says, "There's business opportunities, it just adds to the whole feel of the area and the community, and we think it's a great opportunity for us."The alliance will not only help the commerce between the two towns, but it will also allow them to work on projects together to make this area grow in the future.Robertson says, "We have an eagle's nesting between here and Amboy. There's been talk of bird watching stuff like that."That list also includes a possible canoe route on the Blue Earth River... something that could expand the alliance's benefits to more than just the two communities.Robertson adds, "That could lead to some people renting out canoes, things like that. Maybe get a couple of boat landings between here and Amboy to share that."That means the alliance could lead to bigger things down the road...the road known as Highway 169 that is.Erick Lind, News 12.
