Driving between Madelia and Fairmont doesn't give you many eating options on the highway. That has changed in the last month thanks to a family in Truman that is back in the kitchen.News 12's Eric Lind has more.Jim and Tami Lieffring started serving food to hungry visitors in 1992 when they opened JaTee's Drive In.After worrying about missing their children growing up, they sold the diner in 2002, but 7 years later a discussion between the two found them back serving up smiles.Tami says, "I receive several hugs a day and it's very, very important. It's very, very heartwarming, and we're not doing it to make a million. We're doing it to create memories for the people who are here...and we're doing it."While the food draws the crowds in, it's the Lieffrings being back in charge that have been able to keep those customers returning.Jim says, "They miss the food. They missed us I guess, because business has been pretty good."Burgers, and shakes are back on the menu, but the one thing people are happy to see, is the return of the fish fry.Jim says, "There was a table in for fish last night. She was almost in tears. It was kind of funny."Jim and Tami are bringing JaTee's back to it's glory after being open for just over a month, and it seems to be working even for a new generation.Chelsey Lieffring says, "A lot of my friends have missed it, and they're excited to get back in here and eat the food and ice cream, just to have a place in town, to just hang out."Garrett Lieffring says, "We have actually had a couple nights where we bring some guys down here, drink pop, play some X-Box, whatever. It's a nice place to hang out."The Lieffrings don't plan on doing this forever, just until the right couple shows up.Tami says, "Until then, it's one fish fry at a time."In Truman, Erick Lind, News 12.
