Back in our area:They may still be in high school, but many area teens are dreaming big...News 12's Jennifer Hudspeth brings us students participating in a camp designed to help them reach their future goals.((NATS))"You're learning that millionaires use their skills and their education"Although Yajaira Ramirez isn't sure about becoming a millionaire, at age 17 she already sees money in her future...she wants to be an accountant.Yajaira Ramirez says, "We're going to the bank today so I can ask questions if I have questions, or they can kind of explain what they do."She and 40 other students from Watonwan and Nobles County will get hands-on experience learning about careers in the housing market and economic development.That's because they're at the first ever Summer Youth Housing Careers Camp.Carol Goodemann says, "We'd really like them to feel like they have a goal, something for the future. We don't care what the career is, that they believe they can go on to school and pursue their dreams."These teens are learning about a variety of different fields including lending, architecture and real estate...Fields that bring opportunities close to home.Carol says, "We want students to feel like there are good jobs in their hometown and also throughout southern Minnesota."A hometown job that Javier Vasquez wouldn't mind sticking around for...Javier Vasquez says, "If there's an opportunity to grow, or maybe make my own business, I think I would."Jennifer Hudspeth says, "During camp these teens will not only be able to explore career opportunities, but it will also teach them the importance of giving back to their community."Carol says, "We really like the community service piece and they will be planting and for the kids who live in that community, they can drive by there everyday and see what they've done."A community that supports teens like Yajaira Ramirez...Yajaira says, "We show ourselves that we do want to succeed in life, and we just don't want to be like lazy bums."In St. James, Jennifer Hudspeth...News 12.
