A plea deal has been reached in the case of a St. Peter man accused of killing his infant daughter. 21-year-old Jeremy Jonason had faced five charges stemming from eight-week-old Gracie's death. News 12's Max Jensen joins us live from the newsroom. Jeremy Jonason last night entered an Alford Plea. That means the defendant maintains his innocence but concedes that there's enough evidence for a conviction. The deal comes almost a year and half after his arrest. Jonason was taken into custody back in February 2008...five months after little Gracie's death. According to the criminal complaint, investigators found the eight-week old girl had a number of injuries to her face, neck and arms, as well as several fractures in her ribs. Jonason was also facing charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, another count of second-degree manslaughter and negligence of a child. He pleaded -NOT- guilty to those charges. If the court accepts the plea deal the other charges will be dismissed. Nicollet County Attorney Michael Riley declined our request for an on-camera interview, but did tell us quote: "The resolution with Jonason acknowledging he was guilty of manslaughter in the second degree was appropriate and I can believe justice has been served." Riley says the recommendation under state sentencing guidelines calls for 72 months behind bars. Jonason will be back in court July 14th for his sentencing.
