New Addition to Alden School Made Possible by Generous Resident

The latest addition to the Alden-Conger School District will allow everyone in the communities to benefit. And although the taxpayers had to chip-in, it was one Alden businessman that made it a reality.News 12's Erick Lind explains. The city of Alden is expanding, although *this* expansion could cause residents to shrink.People from Conger as well. It's a brand new community center with state of the art workout equipment and a walking track.Alden-Conger Superintendent Joe Guanella says, "Well it is very exciting. It's been such a good project to put together, whith the city coming in and the generous donation from LeVerne Carlson's family really allowed us to do some really wonderful things for this area."That's right, the people will now have a chance to work out, primarily because of a man that sold work boots for 51 years in town.Alden Shoe & Clothing owner Steve Peterson says, "Myself along with my uncle, we approached LeVerne and asked him if he was interested in making a donation to the school for that purpose, and he thought it was a good idea."While LeVerne Carlson did play sports way back when they were just the Alden Blackhawks, his contribution to this project is more than just showing support for Alden-Conger athletics.Guanella says, "LeVerne was an Alden-area booster. He had an interest in seeing the community succeed, and it didn't make any difference if it was sports or the commercial club or whatever it was, he was interested overall in the area."The new addition also houses a new science and, early childhood classrooms, as well as the city offices and a community room. The project has been supported by both communities, as was shown with an 80 percent levy approval at the voting booth.Sadly LeVerne passed away before he could see the facility completed,Steve Peterson adds, "It's a beautiful facility you know, we're all proud of it I guess...he'd be proud of it too."Thanks to his contribution, his memory will live on forever in the town.In Alden, Erick Lind, News 12.
