After two separate plans to build a women's hockey arena were vetoed by Governor Pawlenty, the city of Mankato is shifting gears for their upcoming bonding requests. The city still wants to expand the Alltel Center, but they will now attempt to add a one thousand, one hundred seat auditorium, which would extend the facility down the block toward Second Street.Burt Lyman says, "There's sort of a queue line. You have to keep trying, and we're trying to procure monies from the state government to help fund the facility improvements and it often takes several times to get that funding."The proposed auditorium would cost approximately twenty four million dollars, with half of the funding coming from the state, and the other half coming from the city's local option sales tax.
