Grilling On A Budget

It appears some grillers are feeling the heat of the struggling economy this holiday weekend.According to Reuters ((royters)) News Organization, hot dogs may be replacing steaks on fourth of July grills. They're reporting the recession and high unemployment have more Americans switching to lower priced meats. That is being felt here in Mankato, as some campers we spoke with today say they are doing their best to be thrifty at those Independence Day barbeques.Donnell Olmanson says, "Instead of doing steaks and all that fancy stuff. I'm doing a pot roast tomorrow and so that will go a little farther in feeding more people. Right now we're doing some hot dogs and brats and chips...just the simple stuff."But not all campers are sticking to the simple stuff. Some say when it comes to food, they aren't holding back.Joel Korthals says, "We buy steaks and chicken and a bunch of hamburgers and hot dogs. We'll cut back on some of the other expenses at home but when we're out on the weekend we like to have a good time."One other camper we spoke with said instead of buying pre-made shish kabobs, she put them together herself.
