As many put on their swimsuits and head to the pool and lakes this 4th of July weekend, health officials are reminding people to practice healthy swimming behaviors.Doctor's say germs and other illnesses can be spread through recreational water like pools and lakes.They say there are many steps that can help prevent illnesses such as swimmers ear and stomach virus's from being transferred through the water.Dr. Satya Jammalamadaka says, "Most important thing they can do before they get into the swimming pool is just have a shower, wash themselves with some soap and then get into the water."Heath officials also suggest washing your hands often and avoid swallowing the water.According to the Minnesota Department of Health from 2000 to 2008 there were 20 water illness outbreaks in swimming pools across the state and 13 on beaches.
