Hanksa Sisters Turn Childhood Home Into Scrapbooking Retreat

Two sisters in Hanska aren't ready to say goodbye to their childhood home, so instead they're turning the house into a family business.News 12's Jennifer Hudspeth spoke with the siblings who are keeping memories alive by letting others enjoy the home. It's the only pink house in town, and it's been in the Anderson family for close to 70 years...But when sisters Jan and Louise lost their mom a year ago, they couldn't bear to sell their childhood home.Jan Frederickson says, "We have so many good memories here and we just were having a hard time giving up the house because of the memories."Louise Ellingson says, "Just not ready to let go I guess."So, the sisters came up with a plan... They decided to combine their mother's love of pictures and the color pink with a hobby of their own...Jan says, "You can't get something better than a picture I guess for good memories and maybe we'll follow in her footsteps a little...only embellished a little bit."Jennifer Hudspeth says, "The pink house has now been transformed into the pink motel, it's a scrap booking retreat where women can get away and spend time with friends while creating and preserving memories."Louise says, "It's just a way of sharing what we have and providing a place for people to come and enjoy what they do and have some fun together."The house is equipped with a computer, printer, and even a dye-cutting machine, along with stations for eight women to have their own space. The sisters hope the retreat will draw friends ready for a little rest, relaxation and of course scrap booking.Jan says, "I think that way they really feel they can go away, have a good time but yet they've accomplished something also.Jan and Louise hope their accomplishment will help them keep the house in the family for years to come...It's a business they hope would make their parents proud.Jan says, "I really think they're looking down on us and saying this is great, have fun go with it."In Hanska, Jennifer Hudspeth News 12.
