History teachers in South Central Minnesota will get lessons of their own... thanks to a grant from Uncle Sam...The South Central Service Cooperative will receive nearly $1 million in funding under the federal Teaching American History Grants Program.The group will partner with the Minnesota Historical Society, MSU Mankato, South Central College, Bethany Lutheran College and Gustavus Adolphus to provide seminars, institutes, and other support services for history teachers.Officials say that when kids learn about their history... everybody benefits...Dr. Brian Fors says, 'History is important for the nation as a whole to establish a common culture, common traditions, common knowledge, and that's significant to bring everybody together as a nation.'SCSC is a group made up of 64 school districts throughout the region... representing 5100 teachers and 87 thousand students.
