Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid today announced Democrats will introduce Hate Crime legislation named for Matthew Shepherd.Joined by Matthew's mother Judy, Senator Reid told reporters the legislation, if passed, would allow federal prosecutions if the states can't or won't.The bill also allots money to the Justice Department for grants to help state and local prosecutors investigating these crimes.Shepherd was beat up and tied to a fence in Wyoming a decade ago because he was gay.He died shortly after being discovered.
