Our other top story:Making Minnesota more connected was the focus today in Mankato.The Minnesota Ultra High Speed Internet Broadband Task Force gathered to discuss the states goal of being well connected to the web by the year 2015.News 12's Bryan Piatt reports.There was a lot of discussion.But when it comes down to it...it's pretty simple.Rick King says, "It's like Swiss cheese. There's coverage and there's holes. The goal for me is to try to figure out how to fill those holes."Those holes he's talking about are parts of Minnesota that don't have access to the internet.Members of the task force were assigned by Governor Pawlenty.Their goal: to get Minnesota into the top five states nationwide when it comes to being connected to the internet.Rick King says, "We're very proud of this kind of aggressive goal, but we also think it's achievable too."Tucker Carlson with Charter says the focus now is on those people who are currently out of the internet's reach.Tucker Carlson says, "The state of Minnesota is already in the top ten states for broadband availability. The next phase, and that's what this task force is looking at is how do we get it to these very rural areas."Bryan Piatt says, "So why is it so important to have the majority of the state logged on?The task force says there are many reasons.This is one of them...they say the more people getting a DVD through the internet instead of having it shipped to them the better."Rick Kings says, "You're taking cars off the roads, you're taking planes out of the air, carbon footprint reduced, congestions reduced and putting more on the information superhighway."A superhighway that's becoming necessary in modern day society.Tucker Carlson says, "Just like television is a lifestyle issue, and housing is a lifestyle issue. The internet is becoming a lifestyle issue."The task force is working to have their report finished by November 9th.In Mankato, Bryan Piatt, News 12.
