A crippled economy has sent many unemployed and underemployed people to fairs nationwide, many reporting record numbers of applicants to tear tickets, serve food and like that group from St. Clair did...clean up after crowds. In Minnesota, more than 10 thousand people applied for the fair's 3 thousand jobs. The problem is the fair vendors are trying to keep costs down and are requesting far fewer employees than in years past. And with more experienced fair workers returning...the fair had room for just 1,250 new employees, about one-third the number of last year.
