Good Evening and thanks for joining us, I'm Betsy GessellState Senators from the Capital Investment Committee today toured several sites in southwestern Minnesota looking for state funding in the 2010 Legislative Session. One of their final stops was the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center, where they toured a home set aside for rehabilitating sex offenders. The treatment center is looking for three hundred thousand dollars to plan and build a 24-bed facility so more offenders can enter the program.Senators say programs like this are vital to the state.Senator Keith Langseth says, "It's very important. We just don't want to lock people up and keep them there for life, unless that's absolutely necessary. And when it comes to the time for them to be released, we want them to be very prepared to be released."The group of Senators also toured sites in Winthrop, Franklin, and Morgan, getting a first -hand look at projects they normally wouldn't be able to see.Senator Kathy Sheran says, "If you can see them you understand better what people are talking about on paper. Without that you really can not understand the complexity of situations or the environmental difficulties people are dealing with, or the economic hardships."The tour continues tomorrow morning in Mankato where they will tour the Verizon Wireless Center.
