H1N1 Deaths Top 1000 in U.S. ; 95 are Kids

In Health Watch:The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the H1N1 flu has now spread to almost every state.Millions of Americans are still waiting to get the vaccine which is in short supply.Manuel Gallegus reports from Encino, California where a public clinic offered free shots today.People arrived before dawn...and the line stretched down the block.Suzy Sinanian was right up front - to get a free H1N1 vaccination for her sonI'm going to feel a lot more comfortable."Today the CDC..announced the virus has killed 95 children. And Suzy's 4 year old son has asthma..and that can cause complications if he gets the flu.She kept him home from school...until he could get a shot. The vaccine arrived by truck before the clinic in Encino opened its doors ...The shots are reserved for people who are getting the sickest from the flu--- including children and pregnant women.'We are worried about it, but we think this is the best thing to do."Standup: (Manuel Gallegus/Encino, CA) "The line may be long here but these people are lucky. The vaccine is still scarce in many parts of the country and the flu is spreading....the CDC says all but four states now have widespread flu activity.""Vaccine production is increasing steadily but far too slowly. It's frustrating for all of us. We wish there was more vaccine available, but we have to remember-- the enemy is a virus."Shawn Wyatt is a paramedic in Los Angeles but even he can't easily get his hands on the vaccine....he's making sure his family gets vaccinated. His son also has asthma..Wyatt says "It's getting worse and we're exposed to it all the time."The CDC says the flu has already caused a thousand deaths and 20 thousand hospitalizations....And if a long wait in line can help these folks avoid the flu and the fear that comes with it. They say it's worth it.
