They were studying trees at MSU today, but it wasn't for biology. They were studying *family trees.Dozens of people attended the South Central Minnesota Genealogy Expo. The conference, put on by the school and the Blue Earth County Historical Society is in its 9th year.Minnesota Genealogical Society president J.H. Fonkert was the keynote speaker for the conference. He says more people have been doing research at home, but they are missing out on a chance to meet others sharing their hobby.Fonkert says, "It's a little harder to get people to come to these conferences than it used to be, because it used to be this was it. Now with the internet there's a lot out there, but I can guarantee not everything's on the internet."Fonkert recommends people looking to take up genealogy start by looking at photo albums, talking to grandparents, or joining a local genealogy group.
