Governor Tim Pawlenty met with business leaders in New Ulm today.Many topics were discussed with the main focus was on mending the sluggish economy.And what about those rumors of a 2012 presidential run?News 12's Bryan Piatt reports.Governor Pawlenty fielded questions that touched on several topics.Tim Pawlenty says, "Ranging from healthcare suggestions to some regulatory suggestions and we benefit from hearing from people who experience these challenges day in and day out."The obvious challenge right now....an economy licking its wounds.Pawlenty says the key to recovery is putting people back to work.Tim Pawlenty says, "We love our quality of life here in Minnesota but it is hinged upon people's ability to have a job. We need to do those things that are going to increase the likelihood that jobs are going to grow here, stay here."State representative Paul Torkelson along with the minority leader of both the house and senate were all on hand.Torkelson says creating jobs in the right place is key.Paul Torkelson says, "It's not public jobs, it's private jobs. The private sector has to recover and start hiring people for this economy to get really back on its feet."Bryan Piatt says, "Pawlenty's visit here today comes as CNN releases a new poll saying just five percent of adults questioned would back him for president in 2012. The governor says he hadn't heard anything about it and that he's focused on the task at hand."Tim Pawlenty says, "I've got a year plus left on my term as governor. I'm willing to speak out and try to help my party improve across the country but I've not made any decision about running or not running for some other office down the road. That's all going to wait till much later."But the day wasn't focused on a possible run for president.Today's meeting opened up, what Torkelson says, are important lines of communication.Paul Torkelson says, "We had some high powered folks here today and I'm real happy that my constituents had the chance to ask questions to the leaders of Minnesota."Leaders who did their best to answer.In New Ulm, Bryan Piatt, News 12.
