Falling leaves can mean a big mess for homeowners, but today one group is helping out.News 12's Jennifer Hudspeth talked with volunteers who say they are the ones benefiting from the cleanup.Mary Ninneman is just 13 years old, but she already knows what it means to give back.Mary says, "It gets you out of bed on a Saturday morning to go out and help people so I think it's a lot better than sitting at home."And she's not alone... close to seven hundred people have volunteered their Saturday to rake leaves for disabled and elderly residents in Blue Earth and Nicollet Counties.It's all part of Vine's rake the town event and although it's hard work(NATS), volunteers say it's worth it.Mary says, "It kind of hurts but once you're done, you're like I just raked two lawns and I feel very good about it."Jennifer Hudspeth says, "Volunteers are raking over 240 yards today and the residents they're helping ...can't say thank you enough."Gen Freeberg says, "This is wonderful, very wonderful to have people come here and rake, I couldn't do it myself.(NATS)I'm very happy to have this service, I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't have it."It's a service that will stay with the community long after the leaves are gone.Pam Determan says, "We do want Vine's culture of caring to make a lasting impact in our community.We can't make changes for the entire world but we can make a difference right here in Blue Earth and Nicollet Counties and that's what we want to do with rake the town."Making a difference one leaf at a time...Mary says, "I think it's a great opportunity and a lot of people should try it, it just makes you feel really good know you can help out another person rather than people are always helping you in your life, that you can pay back to help some one else."In Mankato, Jennifer Hudspeth News 12.
