Good evening, I'm Dion Cheney. And I'm Nicole Winters, thanks for joining us.School districts across the state are asking voters to go to the polls tomorrow to pass operating referendums...The Waterville - Elysian - Morristown school district... is no different. As News 12's Erin Reed reports: if district doesn't get enough 'yes' votes... they will be forced to make some big cuts. The Waterville - Elysian - Morristown school district is hoping its residents head out to the polls tomorrow and check yes.WEM Superintendent Joel Whitehurst says, "This is the twentieth year of the Waterville - Elysian - Morristown school district and I would submit that this is probably the largest decision that the district will have to make as far as how it impacts the future."That large decision is whether to pass the new six-year operating referendum.Whitehurst says, "We had a number of people back in the November 2002 election say that they didn't think we were asking for enough, ironically. But we were able to, with some good fiscal management, make it work for seven years."The new proposal would increase per pupil revenue from $450 to $1200.Whitehurst says, "We're looking to replace what we have in existence. We've made budget adjustments and really we're looking at a budget shortfall of $1.4 million."News 12's Erin Reed says, "Community support for the district has generally been strong and Superintendent Whitehurst hope that trend continues so valuable programs offered by the schools aren't lost."Whitehurst says, "We will have to take a look at entire programs. Do we keep an FFA program? Do we keep our shop program? Those will be some difficult decisions that the school board will have to make."Difficult decisions that they hope won't have to be made after tomorrow night. In Waterville Erin Reed, News 12.Polls in the district will be open from 7:00 tomorrow morning until 8:00 tomorrow night. For voters who still have questions about the levy we've set up a link on our website...Just go to KEYC dot TV and click on Featured Links.
