White House Recognizes Karzai Victory in Afghanistan

The Obama administration is recognizing Hamid Karzai as Afghanistan's president.This despite an initial election charged with fraud -- and, a canceled upcoming run-off election...President Karzai won after his challenger -- Abdullah Abdullah -- dropped out of the race.The former afghan foreign minister said he did so because he felt the vote would not be fair.The disputed election could make it harder for President Obama to devise a new strategy for the war in Afghanistan...but he White House is staying firmly behind Karzai.President Obama says, 'we are looking forward to consulting closely with his government in the weeks and months to come to assure that the Afghan people are actually seeing progress on the ground.'The run-off election was set for this Saturday; President Karzai said despite Abdullah's withdrawal, he still wants the election to take place.
