Blue Earth County has been collecting resident's unused pharmaceuticals.Today was the final day of the program ... which safely gets rid of old medications. The county teamed with the Minnesota Pharmaceutical Association to help keep old prescriptions out of the water and off the street. The two days saw 172 people take part in the drop-off.Around 200 pounds of prescriptions were returned with over 17 pounds of narcotics included.Organizers say there seems to be no down side to the program, but it is surprising to see what is being brought in.Blue Earth County Environmental Services Jean Lundquist says, "When people walk in, individuals with their own medicine and it's two bags full, that's a lot of stuff out there, and that I think has been the biggest eye opener."Lundquist says the two days have been so productive that they plan on doing another collection next spring.
