Minnesota food shelves are eager for donations as the firearms deer hunting season gets underway.And they say, they're happy to take venison.A state venison donation program accepts whole deer carcasses, complete with the hide and registration tag. Donated deer must showNo signs of illness, decomposition or contamination.Food shelf directors are saying demand at food shelves is up 50 percent since the recession set in last year.WHile donations are up, too, it is still not enough to match the demand.Two years ago lawmakers passed legislation saying hunters do not have to pay to process donated deer, hoping to make it easier for hunters to help the hungry.
