When the Colonial Inn in New Ulm was sold in August, the new owner was different from all the other potential buyers.As News 12's Nathan Harrington shows us, you might think the new owner would be better suited for living in a college dorm than running a hotel.Brandon Jacobson says, "Never thought I'd actually get to this but it's been amazing."That's how Brandon Jacobson described it when he purchased the Colonial Inn in New Ulm.He comes from a family dedicated to the hotel business; his parents own a hotel in Rochester.But even with that background, when he walked into the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce, there were some doubts.Sharon Weinkauf says, "I looked at him and thought, oh my goodness. This is a business that has certainly had its challenges. 19 years old, what kind of experience does he really have? Does he really know what he's in for."Well according to Brandon, he does know what he's doing.A new coat of paint, new furniture, and energy saving upgrades are taking the motel in a new direction.Brandon Jacobson says, "I'm turning it into more of an efficient property. Put in some new doors. You know going green is a good thing."Brandon sunk his time, effort, and money into transforming the Colonial Inn. But he's not stopping now. He says there are more improvements on the way.Brandon Jacobson says, "The town is stable. I've really enjoyed living here so far. And I think this will be a good business for years to come."Brandon is still remodeling and upgrading the property but business is so good he broke even last month.A big step for a new owner that's eager to succeed.Sharon Weinkauf says, "You just see it on his face that this is what he wanted and he's going to make it happen."In New Ulm, Nathan Harrington, News 12.
