A Golden Valley day care provider is accused of using safety pins to restrain and discipline a young child. A criminal complaint says 70-year-old Arvilla Marie Lilly Meinhardt told investigators she had been pinning toddlers in her in-home day care to mattresses for about eight years. She's charged with gross misdemeanor punishment of a child and false imprisonment involving one girl, who's now seven. Meinhardt cared for the girl from 2003 to 2006. Police began investigating when the girl recently told her mother that she was pinned to a mattress during nap time. Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman says, "Forcible restraint, I think, is unacceptable. And it's particularly unacceptable when you're the daycare provider for other people's children." The state suspended Meinhardt's daycare license but prosecutors are looking for it to be revoked permanently.
