Schell's Brewery Gets A New Ride

The August Schell Brewing Company is approaching its 150th year in New Ulm.And now they're looking for a way to make their mark outside of town.News 12's Ryan Gustafson has more. You will not come across many of these in your lifetime.Previously used for tailgating, this 1948 Flxible Clipper is the new pride and joy of Schell's.It will take a little work to fix up, but the company expects this old behemoth to be a perfect fit for their needs and style.Ted Marti says, "We've been searching half a year trying to find - first we looked at old dilapidated buses with the thought of refurbishing and that got kind of astronomical. Then we were looking a bus trader magazine and lo and behold here was one that pretty much fit our bill.""The beer-mobile is just another part of celebrating Schell's 150th anniversary. Taking a local favorite out on the road."Marti says, "It's pretty simple to create this 150th anniversary at home and get on the ground. It's a little more difficult when we try to take that on the road, and that's what this really is all about - is try to take our story out there."What was originally a city bus, then converted into a tailgating masterpiece, will now serve as a mobile command unit for Schell's, as they hope to enlist it in parades and regional business trips. The vehicle is just another cog in the run-up to Schell's big celebration in September of next year. And after one hundred fifty years of history, they may finally have their answer to the Clydesdale wagon team.In News Ulm, Ryan Gustafson, News 12.
