After a DFL gubernatorial debate in Le Sueur last Friday, and a mostly DFL debate Monday, tonight it was the Republicans turn to show off their potential candidates.Fox Mankato's Ryan Gustafson has more.MSU's Centennial Student Union played host to the Republican candidates for governor tonight, as the Minnesota GOP looks to fill the void left by their current star.Tony Cornish says, "Our candidates, you might not have the standout flashiness like you do with Pawlenty, but you've got the steadfastness, somebody who is going to keep us from spending wildly, that's what we're looking for."Pawlenty, who served as the Majority Leader in the House for four years before becoming Governor in 2002, appears to be on his way to the national stage, leaving a two-term run as Governor to be filled by up and comers in the party. Those up for debate tonight included former State Auditor Pat Anderson, Former House Minority Leader Marty Seifert, State Representative from Delano, Tom Emmer and State Senator from Eden Prairie, David Hann.Tony Cornish says, "People are looking for somebody that's going to be conservative, like in the past. The last thing we need right now is a House and a Senate and the governorship who will probably spend us into oblivion."Cornish doesn't think former Senator Norm Coleman will be in the running, though he did float the name of former House Leader Steve Sviggum. And with competition like the current House Majority leader, the mayor of Minneapolis, and a former U.S. Senator for the opposition, the GOP may need all the firepower they can get.In Mankato, Ryan Gustafson, The Fox Mankato News At Nine.
