Mankato Man Who Fled His Own Jury Trial Back In Custody

The Mankato man who fled in the middle of his jury trial last week is back in custody...News 12's Erin Reed joins us in the newsroom with how an anonymous tip helped bring him back to Blue Earth County.39 year old Matt Dixon Junior was on trial last week facing two felony counts for DWI.When the court took a recess for lunch Dixon left and never returned.Court proceedings continued without him and Dixon was found guilty on both felony counts.A nationwide warrant was also promptly issued for his arrest...But Dixon didn't get further than Watonwan County before an anonymous tip brought him back into custody.Blue Earth County Sheriff's Captain Rich Murry says, "They had received a tip from a confidential informant that this individual was going to be coming over toward St. James. They set up out in the rest area because that's where he had come to. Once he came he was taken into custody without incident."At the time of the trial Dixon was not in custody, making it hard for the County Attorney's office to file charges against him...Assistant County Attorney Chris Rovney says, "I can't really charge him with escape from custody or anything like that, but that's something that obviously I'll research and if there are additional charges that I can press I will do that."In the meantime... Dixon still needs to be sentenced for his DWI charges, which Rovney says he'll be asking for the maximum sentence.Rovney says, "The sentencing guidelines call for a range between 51 and 72 and the midpoint is 60 months, which is the typical sentence. But because he left during the middle of his trial obviously I'm going to ask for the most severe sentence that I can get."Dixon was in court this afternoon and received 365 days in jail for driving with a cancelled license.A date has not yet been set for his DWI sentencing.
