A sewer project in Waseca is getting a boost from federal stimulus dollars.The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be covering forty percent of the construction costs for Wastewater Sewer Facility.News 12's Jennifer Hudspeth tells us why city officials are calling this project the future of Waseca.For Waseca residents Grove and Carol Brown a new sewer project means big changes...but good changes.Browns say, "Oh, it's wonderful...it's the best news ever."For them, a heavy rain usually means a flooded basement, but construction on a Wastewater Sewer Facility could change that.It's a 16 million dollar project city officials say couldn't come soon enough.Roy Srp says, "This is definitely going to take care of our community and clear up some problems that we've had around here so we're very excited."The project means more piping throughout the city, and better methods for treating sewage.But the icing on the cake... the sewer system is getting six million dollars in federal funding.Walz says, "I don't believe that without the recovery act dollars a project like this would have gone, or the burden would have been incredibly heavy on the folks of Waseca and I think this is a case of was Waseca does well, Minnesota does well."Jennifer Hudspeth says, "Not only was this a project made possible by stimulus money, but it's also a project that has created thirty jobs."Roy Srp says, "Even one job is wonderful, so thirty times that...we're very very happy."The first phase of the project is scheduled to be finished by next spring but it will continue to be a work in progress for the next few years.City officials say the project helps the future of the community.And for the Brown's it's a future they're looking forward to.Browns say, "Now we can just sit upstairs and smile when it rains."In Waseca, Jennifer Hudspeth News 12.
