Good evening, I'm Dion Cheney. And I'm Nicole Winters. Thanks for jA central focus for the city of Mankato has been the revitalization of the city center.Tonight the City Council takes the first steps for another big facelift to downtown.News 12's Ryan Gustafson has the story.A project that could lead to as many as 90 new jobs in Mankato clears its first hurdle.Plans by Neubau Holdings to renovate the Heco building on the corner of Second and Hickory include the desire to build a new parking ramp nearby. While the project will require several steps by the city council before construction can begin, it's part of an even bigger project.Patrick Hentges says, "What they want to do is change the faade - bring in two major tenants for commercial use."The city will help in the deal, with $25,000 in grants, and a $400,000 loan, among other things. That money will go toward two and a half million dollars in renovations to the building, which is where the 90 jobs statistic comes in, and when coupled with the two as of yet unnamed tenants, is expected to give downtown a major lift.Patrick Hentges says, "How often can you bring a number of jobs into your city center? And the second part is that these funds are different from the general taxpayer funds. It's all taxpayer funds indirectly but this was accumulated through our redevelopment funds and parking funds."This is a deal similar to the one that was used to renovate the Graif building.Neubau Holdings also did the renovation there. They're looking at turning the apartments on the upper floor into upscale condos as well. And city leaders say their plans for increasing the areas parking play right into the city's plans as well.Patrick Hentges says, "The city center plan, in terms of parking, did consider that site as the next site for a parking facility."In Mankato, Ryan Gustafson, News 12.
