Huge Piles Of Snow Cause Problems Around The City Of Mankato

Good evening, I'm Dion Cheney. And I'm Nicole Winters, thanks for joining us.It's one of the biggest snowfalls the city of Mankato has seen in awhile.14 inches of snow over a week can leave a mess behind. The plows were able to keep the roads clear, but as News 12's Erick Lind tells us, the mounds left in their wake have created some new problems. The plowing is over, but the piles left behind have made a big mess.Crews started working ten hour shifts last night and figure to do the same for at least the next three to clean the downtown area.Because the snow is so wet and heavy, it could take a week to ten days to get everything back to normal.Mankato Public Safety says until that happens to be extra careful when behind the wheel.Mankato Public Safety Commander Pam Hermanson says, "We're asking for drivers to continue driving with caution during snow removal."The City of Mankato is working to clear out the fire station lots...and wipe out a safety concern at intersections.Piles of snow are blocking drivers view ... forcing motorists to creep out into the street. While the city is dealing with the problem... they need residents to let them know if there's piles they've missed.Mankato Street Superintendent Jim Braunshausen says, "If they have a concern with an intersection that to them is a safety issue, we definitely want to hear that. Definitely call in down to our office and we can respond to those bigger piles right away that way."With all the early snow fall the main dumpsite in Mankato has been filling up quickly. Braunshausen says if this does fill up, there are alternate sites."Braunshausen says, "We've got several smaller spaces right around this area that we've got our eyes on. If we do need them we're going to have to go in and clear them back. I think we'll be okay."In Mankato, Erick Lind, News 12.
