Iowa Man Sentenced In 20 Year Old Cold Case

A 20 year old cold case finally comes to close.Today, the man convicted of the crime is sentenced in Brown County Court.55-year-old Wayne Leroy Everett was sentenced to 52 months in jail on charges of third degree criminal sexual conduct for a crime he confessed to committing back in 1989.According to court documents, Everett broke into a New Ulm Woman's home and sexually assaulted her in October of 1989.The judge in the case says that is the maximum sentence allowed because the guidelines at the time of the crime must be followedSonja Ebling says, "It feels really good to have closure although it doesn't feel like full closure.His sentence while it is the maximum that he was able to be given, it still doesn't feel like enough."The crime was considered a cold case until 2008 when DNA was used to identify Everett.
