Good evening, I'm Dion Cheney. And I'm Nicole Winters, thanks for joining us. The Minnesota state legislature will start a new session in just a couple weeks. Governor Tim Pawlenty says the main focus will be the economy. The Governor was in Mankato today and News 12's Erick Lind tells us the group he was addressing may be the key figures to fixing the budget woes. Before most people were reporting to the office today, a group of entrepreneurs was meeting at Primrose Retirement Community. Greater Mankato Growth was holding it's first Business Before Hours of the year. Greater Mankato Growth's Jonathan Zierdt says, "Specifically designed to bring our members together so they can interact with one another, help create business opportunity." Occasionally the group will have a guest speaker and today that was Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. The timing was perfect, because Pawlenty says to help the budget woes legislators have to help the economy. He says keeping taxes down and not adding burdens to small business owners will help them grow. Governor Pawlenty says, "The key for the budgets in Minnesota and states all across the country is to get the economy moving again. In the meantime people in government and governments are going to have to tighten their belts, just like families are doing...just like small businesses are doing. For my friends on the other side of the aisle to say the answer in a recession is to raise a bunch of taxes. I say no way." Zierdt says as the economy rebounds it's important for government, public, and private sector to work in harmony so no one is adversely affecting any other. Zierdt adds, "We think this opportunity to create the connection between business leaders and policy makers and legislative leaders is critically important and this gives us that opportunity today." Zierdt says as Greater Mankato gains more of a role to the state's economy it will be vital for more people to attend events like today's. That will give them the same chance to interact and grow their business as well. In Mankato, Erick Lind, News 12.
