After more than two months of investigation, a former Blue Earth County Sheriff's Deputy is charged with making terrorist threats.Rick Miller, who resigned from the Department in December, stands accused of writing a threatening email to coworkers.New 12's Ryan Gustafson joins us live in the newsroom with more.In an email sent to 14 others in the department, with the subject line reading 'Union Contract,' Miller allegedly wrote, quote:"We absolutely need to have this added to our contract and if we don't I'm gonna bring a gun into our office and shoot this place and everyone in it all to hell."End quote.Miller was a ten-year veteran of the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Department. The criminal complaint states that Miller admits to sending the email, with Miller adding that he ends all his emails with a bit of his sense of humor. But officials say a line was crossed.Robert Hinnenthal says, "He communicated more than just his displeasure over some portion of the contract negations, and that is the basis for the charge."Miller has been disciplined twice before in his tenure at the department; in 2005 for failing to complete training courses, and in 2002 for drunk driving. While charges were filed in Blue Earth County, the Brown County Attorney's Office will handle the case to avoid a conflict of interest. If convicted, the 36-year-old Miller could face up to a five-year prison term and a ten thousand dollar fine. The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Department could not be reached for comment.Live in the newsroom, Ryan Gustafson, News 12.
