Counties, school districts and cities throughout the state are attempting to tackle cuts they expect will come their way once the state's budget is finalized.News 12's Ryan Gustafson joins us in the newsroom with the city of Mankato's situation. With an expected statewide deficit of one billion dollars, the city of Mankato is expecting another cut in their Local Government Aid funding, this year to the tune of one point seven million dollars. At tonight's city council meeting, City Manager Patrick Hentges will lay out his recommendations for dealing with those cuts.Possible areas that may be affected include the city's parks, library and multitude of non-profit organizations the city assists.Of course, the initial numbers could increase, depending on the situation at the capitol, on how much the Legislature puts forward in spending, and what Governor Tim Pawlenty decides to cut. That could mean a drop in other services, and possibly jobs at public safety and other city departments. No action will be taken at tonight's seven o'clock meeting at the Intergovernmental Center. The strategy the city council decides on will eventually be incorporated into a city budget that already has a one point four million dollar cut for this year's spending, with the additional one point seven million dollar cut looming over 2011.We'll have details on what specifically looks to be on the chopping block later tonight on the Fox Mankato News at Nine and News 12 at Ten.Live in the newsroom, Ryan Gustafson, News 12.
