Protestors Voice Concerns Over Health Care Reform

Democratic Leaders in Congress are pushing to finalize health care reform this month...And as News 12's Sara Miles tells us some citizens believe their opinions on health care aren't being heard and now they want our local leaders to step up. Congressman Tim Walz isn't in the area today... but that didn't prevent some constituents from stopping by to voice their beliefs.Protestor Edward Prechel says, " feel like the Congressman doesn't hear us, we've called his office weekly, we've been to the town hall meetings over the summer and for whatever reason...Congressman Walz either doesn't have an opinion or doesn't want to share it with us."But the democratic Congressman does have an opinion on health care...US Congressman Tim Walz says, "we're paying far too much and getting too little for it, its too expensive for people to be able to afford it, and our providers aren't being reimbursed clearly."An Associated Press -GFK Poll released this week found that many Americans agree and want improvements to the health care system... but they don't like the way the debate is playing out in Washington. Waseca Resident Steven Luther is one of those people...Waseca Resident Steven Luther says, "we need to take the time to talk about these types of things so we know we aren't making the mistakes, all we are hearing is lets just get it through as quickly as possible and hope we've done the best and maybe we might make the corrections."Today in Washington, Democrats discussed tweaks to the bill and ultimately... how to come to a compromise.Congressman Walz says, "everybody is making their pushes and they're talking about... what they can live with in the end."But in the end... some citizens still disagree that anything is being done to assure that their voice is being heard.Prechel says, "they thank you for calling and say how great it you stopped in and all the rest but they never give you an answer they never do anything."A point Congressman Walz disagrees with. But they *can agree: There's no easy solution. In Mankato, SM, News 12Congressman Walz adds his staff does receive over 2000 emails a day and an over 98 percent satisfaction rate of handling the responses.
