Democrats Begin Process Of Reconciliation For Healthcare Reform

It's the first day of a huge week in the battle over health care reform.President obama began the week back on the road for a public pitch for the overhaul.In washington, democrats are counting votes and beginning the process of reconciliation-- a step necessary to pass reform in the senate.Fox's Craig Boswell reports.DURING A HEALTH CARE RALLY IN OHIO, PRESIDENT OBAMA AGAIN CALLED ON CONGRESS TO PASS REFORM LEGISLATION-- TODAY CALLING IT A COURAGEOUS VOTE.OBAMA says: "So I am calling on Congress to pass these reforms - and I look forward to signing them into law. I want some courage."THE PRESIDENT WANTS THE HOUSE TO PASS THE SENATE'S VERSION OF OVERHAUL THIS WEEK.DEMOCRATS NEED 216 VOTES AND BY MOST COUNTS THEY ARE A FEW SHORT.WHILE LEADERS WORK TO FIND THE VOTES, THE HOUSE BUDGET COMMITTEE BEGINS THE PROCESS OF RECONCILIATION.SPRATT says: "We are taking the next steps in the long arduous process to resolve debate on health care reform."THE COMMITTEE PASSED THE RECONCILIATION RESOLUTION-- THE FIRST STEP IN A COMPLICATED PROCESS WHICH WOULD ALLOW THE SENATE TO ULTIMATELY PASS HEALTH CARE LEGISLATION WITH LIMITED DEBATE AND A SIMPLE MAJORITY VOTE.RYAN says: "This is in fact, an extraordinary and unprecedented abuse of the budget reconciliation process."REPUBLICANS REMAIN UNANIMOUSLY OPPOSED.MCCONNELL says: "They're pulling out all the stops. They're doing everything they can to jam this bill through. And they don't even seem to care anymore about how ugly it all looks."The next step for the healthcare overhaul is the House Rules Committee.
