vSKAPE Introducing Virtual Windows

Work in an office that doesn't have a window, feel like you don't get outside enough?If you do, a new local business venture may be able to help with that. News 12's Caroline Rowland explains why.Does looking out a window at this view help you relax...The company vSKAPE is hoping it does.This virtual window is a part of their new business endeavor.John Ahlberg says, "The idea came from a blend of thinking about video technology affecting environments in the future."And with the help of MSU's Psychology department, the vSKAPE is in the testing process right now.Second year graduate student Sherine Kurian is leading the research.Testing just how helpful these virtual windows will be.Sherine Kurian says, "Research has already shown that windows are beneficial. They have restorative properties. They help relieve stress."In the basement of Armstrong Hall here at MSU there are no window views. But Vskape has transformed the back corner classroom, so you don't feel like you're inside or even in Southern Minnesota.Sherine Kurian says, "You feel some pleasant moods when you are looking at these images"Lifting moods and relieving stress is exactly what Vskapes hopes to do..in a number of different places.Fred McGrath says, "Get into hospitals, workplaces, schools. If a grade class is studying on Africa, we want them to feel like they will be in Africa."While they shot most of their HD video for the windows in Yosemite Park, they hope to one day shoot internationally.In Mankato.
