The redevelopment of North Mankato's downtown area continues with the approval this morning for a surgical center to relocate to Belgrade Avenue. The Port Authority approved an application for Southern Minnesota Surgical to locate to 223 Belgrade Avenue. Its the latest in the city's redevelopment efforts. City Administrator Wendell Sande says, "We're pleased to have a medical component to the downtown. The Natural Pathways program is under construction, Brunton Architect is now in their new building and construction will begin soon on the former Dollar Store. So a lot of positive things are happening downtown." It will be a $206,000 project. Currently the surgical center employs 7 people. Sande says staff will increase as business develops. Renovations begin this month, it could start seeing patients this summer.
